TalkTalk Huawei HG532 Router Review

Among the routers which TalkTalk provides for their customers, the Huawei HG532 is among the best ones. This is a reliable router which gives excellent connection. For TalkTalk subscribers who have received this router, they do not find themselves wanting to buy another one because its performance is impressive.

This router is recommended for use in both home and SOHO. Its durability can withstand long term use even if the router is constantly switched on. Aside from that, the robust network connection that it can deliver makes it ideal not just for the typical emailing and web surfing but also for more complex online tasks like streaming of music and video, downloading and gaming. TalkTalk has been getting a lot of commendation particularly because the router allows customers to enjoy lag-free and stable internet connection.

Huawei HG532: Router Design and Aesthetics

The Huawei HG532 does not look too fancy but the important thing is that it is crafted with consumer convenience in mind. The casing is made of white plastic which is sturdy enough as an enclosure. After all, routers do not need to be carried and transferred constantly. Once it is set-up in place, it is most likely to just stay there for a long time.

The dimensions are pretty small. Some users are easily annoyed by bulky and space-consuming routers. This unit would not trigger such displeasure. It is only 16.4 cm. x 14.2 cm. x 2.5 cm. compared to other routers; this one has 10 indicator lights that are found on the front part. Yes, every task and activity that this router does has a corresponding indicator. This is a plus side for users because there is no more guesswork in determining which functions are activated and which ones are not working the way it is supposed to.

Huawei HG532: Web Based Configuration / Setup

For something that offers great functionality, adjusting the settings to fit the user’s preferences is way too easy. Right at the moment that the connection is created, users can already access the web interface to adjust the configurations. This is also the key in arranging the connection between the computer and the router so that the network access is activated.

There are various settings which can be adjusted using the web based configuration. Since everything is accessible through it, the use of the router becomes much easier. With the web based configuration, users can also utilize the Connection Wizard window. This provides a step by step procedure on how to manually create a connection. The wired network connection has to be created first before the wireless network.

For users who also would like to utilize the wireless connection, the router has a WPS button or Wi-fi Protected Set-up. If the wired network connection is already up and running, this is the right time to set up the wi-fi. Through the web based configuration, another account has to be made which will be for the wireless connectivity. When setting up the wi-fi, it is important to make sure that the administrator password is changed. Using the default password may jeopardize the security of the Wi-Fi connection.

A handy feature of the Huawei HG532 Router is that in case passwords are forgotten, the reset button is easily accessed. Pressing this for more than six seconds would restore the default username and password.

Huawei HG532: Router Functions and Features

For the pocket-friendly price of this router, it is quite surprising that it also provides excellent functionality. TalkTalk made a good decision in including this router in their broadband packages because their clients no longer have to spend more money just to buy a router that fulfills their expectations.

It is amazing that this router works on a wireless-N standard. Because of that, there is no reason to doubt whether it can provide fast internet connection for both wired and wireless networks. Its maximum speed is up to 280 Mbps which makes it an excellent option especially for home use. This will also do a pretty decent job in small offices so long as the bandwidth is not overly congested due to simultaneous use of multiple computers and devices.

This router operates only on 2.4 GHz. Yes, some people are in constant search for a dual band router because they easily assume that it is the key in achieving reliable connection. The truth is, if the area where the router is used remains free from too many interference, then the 2.4 GHz bandwidth can also provide superb speed and steady performance.

As an added bonus for users, the Huawei HG532 Router is also geared with one USB port. This makes it possible to use mobile broadband sticks from Huawei but beware you cant plug in any other device (e.g. USB Harddrive) into this USB port, which is a shame.

Security is not a problem too even if the wi-fi connection is activated. Yes, the router has decent coverage and can effectively eliminate dead spots within a home or small office. On the plus side, other people who are not supposed to connect to the network would not be able to tap it because it is designed with security encryption in WEP, WPA and WPA2 format. WPA2 is the latest encryption which heightens the safety of the connections. Users simply have to activate this through the web interface so that only authorized computers and devices can utilize the network connection.

Huawei HG532: Amazing Performance in a Simple Package

The Huawei HG532 Router may look like a simple and not too sophisticated router but the truth is that this does an excellent job in providing superb internet connection. Whether it is used for cabled connection or wi-fi, there is no need to worry about lag time, weak signal or interrupted internet connection.

TalkTalk should also be commended for working hand in hand with Huawei to provide the HG532 Router because it keeps their customers very satisfied with their internet connection.

      • With the right firmware you can use the USB for hard disks (there is printer support too!) but the disks must be formatted to FAT or FAT32. You can access the drive via ftp, SAMBA share or use media files with the built in DLNA server. I use a Western Digital 1TB drive to serve files to my Samsung TV and use ftp to upload new media files to the disk. My router Device Information page shows as follows:
        Product name HG532c
        Device ID E839DF-21530309348K09012113
        Hardware version HG532CRRA VER.B
        Firmware version V100R001C33B012SP03
        Batch number RWC33P3.012.29083
        Physical address E8:39:DF:D2:AF:F8

The firmware is a standard from the Spanish firm Jazztel and I have had no problems whatsoever. I downloaded it from the Jazztel site about a year ago.

      • I just checked and you can only get this version: V100R001C33B015 and upwards, but Jazztel no longer provide it. Google this number and you’ll find links to the downloads. The links are in Spanish so make sure you haven’t got Google set for English results only. The latest version seems to be G532cV100R001C62B017_upgrade_main, downloadable from the same source.

N.B. The SAMBA setting is missing in the menu structure with my firmware. You can access/modify it by going to [routerIP]/html/application/samba.asp, just in case they didn’t fix it in the later releases.

  1. For use with 40Mbs broadband you need to go N only or the G will drag it down from 38Mbs to 18Mbs.
I have wired in a Belkin G router to provide G coverage to a few older laptops and an XBox.

  2. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong, because I installed everything, but when I must link to the WAN connection and I select submit, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? I can’t get an internet connection.

  3. I tried to add a comment to say that USB disk support is available, as is USB printer support, SAMBA and ftp to the disk and it also incorporates a DLNA server. However it depends on your firmware. Mine is as follows:
    Product name HG532c
    Device ID E839DF-21530309348K09012113
    Hardware version HG532CRRA VER.B
    Firmware version V100R001C33B012SP03
    Batch number RWC33P3.012.29083

I added a second post with details and the first got deleted. So here it is again! I had said that I use this router with a WD USB disk to serve media to my Samsung TV, and I use ftp to upload new media to the disk. And in case the second post gets deleted by this one –
